So the last time I really sat down and actively listened to City & Colour (Dallas Green of Alexisonfire’s side project) was probably around age 16 when I was going through some sort of sad, emotional time that in reality probably wasn’t that sad or emotional seeing as I can’t remember why. Point being, this was the type of acoustic, slow music that tugged on your heart strings for one reason or another. Now, City & Colour is back with a more mature and well rounded sound on “Thirst”. While you can still feel emotion in the song it is so much less whiny which is great. A grittier guitar replaces the familiar soft acoustic rhythm. Even though overall this isn’t an incredibly complicated song music wise, I definitely dig the direction City & Colour has gone in.
